Giving Effective Feedback on Student Writing: What Do Caltech Students Do with Professors' Comments on Their Writing?

This talk will present findings from research on how Caltech undergraduates approach and use the feedback they receive on their writing from their professors. The results come from a survey and interviews conducted in 2016 by Dr. Hall with the assistance of HWC tutors. The goal of the talk will be to create an occasion for critically reflecting on the hard work we do in giving feedback to our students. In the conversation following the talk, faculty will be invited to discuss their own experiences with this aspect of teaching.
