Support HSS Faculty & Postdoctoral Instructors

Endowed Professorships

Endowed professorial chairs recognize and sustain outstanding achievement. Endowed chairs are held by world-renowned scholars—individuals who drive progress in their areas of research and share a commitment to educating the next generation, helping our students reach the top of their fields.

A named professorial chair represents the highest recognition Caltech bestows on its faculty. Such endowments provide HSS with a powerful, necessary tool for retaining our best people and for attracting rising stars. Creating a named professorial chair forever links the donor to the eminent Caltech scholars who hold the chair—those who embody the ideals of the Institute and its commitment to educating the next generation, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, and undertaking groundbreaking research.

Early-Career Professorships

Caltech recruits extraordinarily ambitious, skilled, and imaginative assistant professors who in their first years on the Institute’s faculty aim to define new paths in their fields. Endowed early-career professorships enhance Caltech’s competitive advantage in attracting and retaining the most-promising new faculty members.

Postdoctoral Endowments

Give outstanding newly-minted PhDs incomparable opportunities and help Caltech recruit a diverse cohort of postdoctoral scholars. Postdoctoral endowments enable HSS to support these scholars in their formative research careers and add breadth to Caltech’s course offerings for current students.

Visiting Scholars & Lecturers

HSS awards visiting professorships to distinguished researchers and educators from other institutions and the private sector, which offers our faculty and students opportunities to work closely with leaders in their fields from around the world. The creation of an endowed full-year visiting professorship will enrich HSS course offerings and accelerate the exchange of ideas to and from Caltech.
