Pawel Janas is an economic historian working at the intersection of finance and public economics. He studies the consequences of financial crises on governments and households, focusing on local public goods, education, and long-run economic growth. In his research, he uncovers and digitizes large historical datasets and uses quantitative methods to answer empirical questions motivated by macroeconomic phenomena. He teaches machine learning for finance and economics at the undergraduate level and U.S. economic history at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Janas holds degrees in economics and applied mathematics from the University of Colorado Boulder (BA, BS, MS '16) and finance from Northwestern University (PhD '22).
