Genetic dissection of visual circuits for sensing direction
Andrew Huberman, Assistant Professor, Department of Neurosciences, University of California, San Diego,

The ability to detect and respond to visual motion is fundamental to the daily life and survival of many species, including humans. I will describe genetic tools that our lab has discovered to label, monitor and manipulate specific sets of motion sensing neurons in the retina and brain. A major focus will also be the discussion of genetic and virus-based tools we are using to search for and record from direction selective retinal neurons in primates and to understand the functional impact of those neurons on the broader circuits they participate in.
