Invitation for Applications: Part-Time Lecturer History of Islam or Christianity.

The Division of the Humanities and Social Sciences of the California Institute of Technology invites applications for a part-time lecturer to teach an introductory course on the history of Islam or Christianity in the fall of 2008.

Such a course would ideally, while focusing on its primary subject, compare that subject's development to those of the other great religions of the ancient Mediterranean, i.e., connect the history of Christianity to the histories of Judaism and Islam, or the history of Islam to those of Judaism and Christianity.

Lecturer salaries are commensurate with tenure-track salaries in the discipline, pro-rated for the number of courses.

We encourage applications from qualified individuals in the Los Angeles area who would enjoy teaching Caltech students; Caltech classes are generally small, and the students are of superior intellectual ability.

Candidates for the position must have a Ph.D. and should send a CV; three letters of recommendation; a course syllabus; teaching evaluations (if available); and a letter describing their research interests.

CONTACT: Chair, History of Religion Search, Caltech 101-40, Pasadena, CA 91125. EMAIL: emilya@caltech.edu

Application review will continue until the position is filled.

Caltech is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. Women, minorities, veterans, and disabled persons are encouraged to apply.
