Course Description:

The course surveys the religious, artistic, and philosophical flowering of European civilization from the Fifteenth to the late Eighteenth centuries. Special emphasis will be given to the movements and ideas that shaped modernity, such as the Renaissance, the Reformation, the Wars of Religion, the Counter-Reformation, the Scientific Revolution, the Enlightenment, the Industrial Revolution and the French Revolution. Readings will include key primary sources.
