The Division of the Humanities and Social Sciences at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and the Research Division of The Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens (The Huntington) invite applications for a two-year Postdoctoral Instructorship under their joint research program, the Caltech-Huntington Humanities Collaborations (CHHC). The theme of the program’s next research module will be “Social and Technological Change in Historical Perspective: Innovation, Quantification, Representation.” We seek applicants whose work engages aspects of industrialization, innovation, and social and economic change, and related modes of social analysis and knowledge formation, in Europe and North America from 1700. This is an interdisciplinary program. Successful applications might involve work in economic and social history, or political history of government policy; histories of technology and of the human sciences; and literary or print cultural studies. Scholars working across the humanities are encouraged to apply; interdisciplinary and comparative perspectives are particularly welcome.
